They gave me my first visa signature card which has a healthy $5k CL on it. I have around 8 credit cards and now I either use my discover card or my barclaycard. Discover gave me a $2500 CL at 18 (20 now) Quicksilver gave me a $500 CL at 20. I would like to mention that the Citi Double Cash credit card offers 2% back on all purchases, so when your credit improves, you won't really need the Quicksilver. You're just starting out, so don't really worry about hard inquiries. ![]() You can also try for the Discover It at the same time. Don't throw away the offer, and mention it when you call. If you're not approved for the Quicksilver, you can call for reconsideration. If you really want it, try out the for Quicksilver. I've read that the Discover It is an easier card for new consumers. The Discover It offers 1% on all other purchases not covered by the 5% categories while the Quicksilver offers $100 sign up bonus. Less merchants accept Discover, but that's rather rare. The average score of the Discover It is 671 with a typical low of 601. (Also, if you all have any suggestions for other cards which may be better for me to try for, I am all ears.)Įven though you may be receiving pre-approved/qualified offers, this doesn't mean you're guaranteed approval.Īccording to Credit Karma, the average score of the Capital One Quicksilver is 744 with a typical low of 637. ![]() OR, if you all think that I should stick with my authorized user route and just keep plugging along the way I am. I'm curious as to whether or not you all feel this would be a good way for me to build credit myself, in my own name, or if it would be a better idea for me to try to apply for the IT card (which I may not get, due to aforementioned lack of recent credit). I have, however, received some pre-authorizations in the mail for the Capital One Quicksilver card. We got a Capital One secured card early on in the process, and I am added as an authorized user, but Mint still thinks I have no credit history. Unfortunately for me, he has gained the most benefit from this, as I was a stay-at-home mom for a good chunk of that. There's probably a lot of backstory I'm going to end up glossing over here, but long story short I've spent the last two to three years busting my butt to clean up mine and my husband's credit.
